Gone are the days of naff calendars. You know, the one's I mean - the ones of puppies, footy players, Anne Geddes babies. Tonight is the night that Lucy from The Design File's launches her 2011 Calendar at one of my newly personal fave Melbourne galleries 'Lamington Drive'.

The Calendar is titled 'Neighbourhood', fitting really considering that the 12 different illustrators, one for each month of the year (which is quite obvious), have created 12 different pieces. Each one inspired by their favourite suburb. And let me tell you, it's come up a real treat!

Music To My New York Streets.

Have you heard about the 'Play me I'm Yours' project? If you have, brownie points to you, I knew nothing about it. Well, I knew nothing about it until an old flame emailed me the link only a few days ago. Thank-you old flame, you're good for something (said with a wink and a smile)!

'Play Me I'm Yours' began in 2008 thrilling street traffic from London to Sydney, to Sao Paulo and now in NYC, with custom designed upright Pianos propped on the street for anyone to play. Is that cool or is that cool?!

This installation is currently giving NYC a musical voice, from now until July 5, as the charity behind the project 'Sing For Hope' has placed six pretty pianos in Manhattan, ten in Brooklyn, four in the Bronx, six in Queens and four on Staten Island.

Talk Study?! Okay, my first year of graphic design was at Monash, then three weeks of Visual Art and Vic Uni and the full course of illustration at Chisholm!

Best Tip? Don’t give up!

Your Tip? Same as above! It is easy to get disheartened but it takes time to get out there and get noticed. In the end its worth all the emails, phone calls and mail outs.

Your Inspiration? I get most inspired wandering around Melbourne city, going to exhibitions and seeing other Melbourne artists’ amazing work.

Your Fave Piece? I'm most happy with a recent illustration hubba bubba. It was a collaboration with Melbourne based photographer She is Frank, who took the original photo which I worked from.

Fave Piece from Someone Else? I love Kelly Thompson’s work, in particular her illustration - Lily.

Talk Your Portfolio?! I just worked with Yen Magazine to create a Miso pull out poster to advertise valley girl. It was fun to have a job in one of my fave mags and create completely fashion based illustration.

Your Signature Style? Youthful, feminine pencil drawings with a splash of colour.

Mediums Used? I use mainly grey lead pencil to create delicate line work drawings and then bring in a different medium or a colour to create more of a mood.

Your Work Is? In various mags and book covers.

What's Next? I have an exhibition planned so doing lots of fresh new work for that!

Up Close & Personal - Spooky Style

Today's the day that I generally bring you 'Up Close and Personal' however, this week, I have been deprived of fun things, sad things, freaky deaky things. Meaning, I got no material baby!

So instead of talking about me, which I do love to do, let me think - hmmm what's fun, sad and freaky deaky!? Thinking, thinking, thinking - oh of course...EDWARD SCISSORSHANDS, yep that movie definitely ticks all of those boxes.

Bet you're sitting at your desk reading this thinking... does this girl have her heads-in-the-clouds or what!? Where on earth did Edward Scissorshands come from!?

Well, first off - it's a fun, sad and v. freaky deaky movie and to be truthful; one of my all time fave flicks.

Secondly, it just so happens, that from June to October 2010, ACMI is hosting a unique exhibition direct from The Museum of Modern Art, New York from TIM BURTON (aka genius behind E.S.H plus other obscure big screen delights)...yes that's right - oh me oh my Tim Burton.

The exhibition brings together over 700 kooky works, including paintings, drawings, puppets, costumes, storyboards and film.

Dad Would Have a Heart Attack

Dad would have a Heart Attack if he knew of my recent desire to have a small part of my body tattooed. So I am thinking that I should live and breathe tattoos before getting one- just so I am 100% sure that I want a tatt (and of course to prevent Dad from the inevitable). This inky post, I guess, is helping decide...do I / don't I.

Scott Campbell...heard of him? Well, to be honest, I hadn't until yesterday. Campbell is the tatt artistic to the stars - Marc Jacobs and Courtney Love included. His Parlour, Saved Tattoo, nestled away in the heart of NYC, chisels anything and everything that can be done with needle and ink.

But besides tattooing New York's elite with bizarre juvenile cartoon characters, now he is moving into a more accepted or certified way of art. Campbell is currently exhibiting his own three-dimensional pieces, prints and hologram paintings at The OhWow Gallery, NYC.

I like Miles' work. Initially I read about him in an International Magazine floating around the office. Another article about him then popped up, just yesterday infact, on nowness.com (visiting this site is a frequent time-killer of mine). But besides - liking his work - what I feel is most appealing about him is his undetailed bio. It is short, distant but somehow inspiring and real.

Today I thought to bring you something that I read about over a rather unimpressive coffee on the weekend, called SIXTEEN.

SIXTEEN is an exhibition, a photographic exhibition FYI. What caught my wandering eye was the fact that this exhibition, brought to you by Oliver Bryce Yates; skateboarder-turned-model-turned-photography enthusiast, showcases sixteen of Australia's emerging photographers.

There is one little problem...this exbo only benefits those Sydney Shlicks. Yep, so if you call home anywhere other than Sydney, you'll probably have to pass on this one. And if it makes you feel any better, I have to miss out too. I know...sad! But keep your peepers for these photographic big-shots to be!

My routine, generally, doesn't shift much from Monday to Friday. Wake up cranky at 6.45am (mornings and I, probably not the best mix), eat breakfast, drive 20mins to work, park at work - 8am (traffic depending), experience morning stress, rush, rush, rush, deadline, deadline, deadline, walk to Amsterdam (cafe) - coffee hit, mmm relax a little, eat lunch, feel sleepy, experience further afternoon stress, again rush, rush, rush, deadline, deadline, deadline, attempt resisting afternoon chocolate craving (never works), finish work at 6.15pm, drive home (thinking about the day), eat dinner and then fill my time with something that makes me smile. At the minute - that's broadening my itunes library.

As a lover of all things Chanel - makeup, shoes, key rings, perfumes, jewels, bags, ballet flats, tweed waistcoats, the movie, coco herself, Lagerfeld etc etc and so on - you could imagine my delight when my boss forwarded me the doco link to 'Chanel Shanghai Documentary'.

Posts today are signing about this new breakthrough that Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel's creative director, has designed a new Chinese Fantasy that complements Coco Chanel's love of Asian antiques.

Week Ending May 21

Thanks to the gentle push of my friend, I am back - ready to attack my, once weekly, UC&P post (yep, that's short for Up Close & Personal).

So let me see what's been goin' on this week or more-to-the-point this month!? My terrible neglect for UC&P would suggest not much, this is quite the understatement. I have started my drawing class with Patsy Fox Drawing Studio, chatted with two creative gems - Georgia Lazzaro and Sarah Hankinson (Q&A's to come - visit me next week) and went down the coast for some R&R with the fam for Mother's Day. You could say that my life is peachy at minute, I would have to agree.

To hone in on the Mother's Day R&R front - Mum and I, together with extended family, drove along the Great Ocean Road to Wye River; a very beautiful quiet spot. In Wye River there is nothing but the local Pub and the General Store. Yep, that's it!

The General Store isn't that General at all. Instead, it is a casual restaurant that hums with goodness. From freshly brewed coffee to homemade bread to a hearty menu and open kitchen - The General Store has it covered. My take-a-break-tip...drive along the Great Ocean Road on a Sunday and stop by for The General Store to devour their signature Sunday Roast. It's a guaranteed great day!

Attached to the restaurant is an actual 'general store' (well, what do ya know) full of gourmet delights and those old-fashioned lollies I once loved. You know...Big Boss, Musk Sticks, Toffee Apples...

You may be wondering why I took photos of the blackboard (scroll up to refresh your memory)...well, can I tell you - I am a little obsessed with blackboard paint at the minute. A smear of the stuff completely changes the appeal of a drab wall in a flash. See idea's below from Sibella Court (who has absolutely nothing to do with The General Store, I just love her).

Birthday Challenge Complete

If you tuned in last week you would have known about my Pavlova birthday challenge. At the last minute, I scraped Donna Hay's recipe, trading it for a Margaret Fulton number. This was a good decision as my Pavlova - in few words - was delightfully marshmallowy, slightly crisp and light and fluffy. Thank-you Margaret Fulton for putting faith back into to my baking ability. Together we would have Matt Preston licking those well-educated lips and coming back for seconds.

To the birthday girl, I have a confession. I am sorry as this lovely cake was devoured quicker than you can say Pavlova at home (what a selfish friend I am). I will make it up to you, cross my heart.

And can I mention congrats for your first design print editorial. I couldn't be prouder, even if I were punch. (brain thinking...what the hell does that expression mean anyway, proud as punch? Does it mean punch the drink, Punch & Judy, to punch someone?! I need answers).

Now back to giving my friend birthday lurvvvee...don't laugh but I am going to attempt to bake you a Pavlova for your birthday - it's only fitting you know. Being more a cook than a baker (trust me I am a horrendous baker) I will post pictures of the finished result. Wish me luck!

Donna Hay Recipe:

* 150ml eggwhite (approximately 4 eggs)
* 1 cup (220g) caster (superfine) sugar
* 2 tablespoons cornflour (cornstarch), sifted
* 2 teaspoons white vinegar
* 1 cup (250ml) single (pouring) cream
* ½ cup passionfruit pulp (approximately 4 passionfruit)
* 250g strawberries, hulled and halved

Preheat oven to 150°C (300°F). Place the eggwhite in the bowl of an electric mixer and whisk until stiff peaks form. Gradually add the sugar, whisking well, until the mixture is stiff and glossy.

Add the cornflour and vinegar and whisk until just combined. Shape the mixture into an 18cm round on a baking tray lined with non-stick baking paper. Reduce oven to 120°C (250°F) and bake for 1 hour 20 minutes. Turn the oven off and allow the pavlova to cool completely in the oven. Whisk the cream until soft peaks form. Spread over the pavlova, top with passionfruit and strawberries and serve immediately. Serves 8–10.

You’ll know when the meringue is stiff and glossy because the mixture will have tripled in volume and stands up when the beaters are lifted.

The low heat puffs up the meringue while the long cooking time dries it out to give you a lovely crisp shell.

Store your pavlova, undressed, in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

For instance, yesterday I posted my first Q&A - which, thanks to Kate, went down like a chilled glass of Herrick's Gin with a splash of Tonic Water and thin slice of cucumber on a hot day (yes, that means pretty well). AND now, Zoe - Beauty Editor from Dolly Magazine, has posted a lovely little article on her blog - To The Glamour Born - about yours truly.

Reading it, made me smile the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland (and not the one from the recent flick, the one when Whoppie played the grinning feline). What a weird feeling it was to read something about me. Weird but wonderful at the same time!

So to you Zoe, I give a forehead kiss (I tend to give people a kiss on their forehead whom I treasure or that do something for me that's extra special).

Being the Q&A virgin that I am here is my very first one with Kate Carnegie, Fashion Stylist. All feedback, naughty or nice is welcomed.

Kate, 24, is a Melbourne stylist who was recently accepted to do an internship with Vogue in UK! Despite her natural ability, to refine her skills Kate completed a BA Fashion Design at RMIT and is currently studying a BA of Fine Art at Central St Martins.

Deep breath....here I go!

Tuxedo: Hey Kate, how's things?
KC: Hey Tuxe, loving London!

Tuxedo: Okay, so what made you want to get into styling?
KC:The interest has always been there for me, from a very young age. After I finished university, I found myself with a bit of free time on my hand, and I guess became a bit lost from going from such an intense three years of fashion design to not much at all. I found myself more interested in the styling aspect of fashion rather than design itself after I finished at uni, and it was this realisation that prompted me to start focusing my energy into that.

Tuxedo: Have you ever hit a wall and be slammed with something challenging in relation to styling?
KC: Starting out is a challenge for everyone. The most challenging thing is finding the right people to work with. You find yourself testing with photographers who may not share the same vision as you do, and it is only through the creative process that you get to see how other people work and whether or not you share that same vision.

Tuxedo: Tell me - what styling projects meant the most to you and why? Spill It!
KC: A submission/editorial that I just worked on recently. I was fortunate enough to use some amazing pieces from some of London's recent fashion graduates from LCF and Central St. Martins, ex-students who are pushing the boundaries of conceptual design today.

Tuxedo: Like you already know, to me, you're an inspiration. So who and what inspires you?
KC: I have to say it really is different each time. Sometimes I might be inspired by something I read, or an image that provokes a feeling or sentiment. It could be as simple as I texture I might observe or as trivial as one simple word.

Tuxedo: Have you worked with anyone fabulous as yet?
KC: I've met some great photographers here in NYC and make-up artists that are a bit more established in the whole scene here which has been great. I have met some amazing photographers in London who want to push boundaries and take their work to the next level. I think this is great for me, as I am still learning and growing and progressing with my work.

Tuxedo: What is next on the agenda for you? Tell me all about it…
KC: Besides my internship at Vogue after that I am hoping to just keep developing my work, working with new photographers and keep submitting stories. I really desperately need to start a blog asap, and this is one of my main agendas as it is such an indispensable tool for any designer or stylist. The next thing after that on the cards is a T-shirt line!

Tuxedo: Help a compadre out - any advice to other stylists in the making??
KC: To keep experimenting and shooting ideas. It is important to challenge yourself and others through experimentation. i think it is so important for stylists to work with as many different individuals they can in order to learn and progress with their work.

KC: My favourite shop in Melbourne though would be Eurotrash.

KC: I love Cicciolina in Acland Street- I'm in love with the fish cakes there. I think Cookie do some amazing dishes too for a good price. Pink Ginger too for the best sushi.

Tuxedo: Favorite drink?
KC: Miami Vices and slurpees.

Tuxedo: Favorite thing to cook?
KC: Dumplings

Tuxedo: Favorite thing to wear?
KC: Probably my vintage pair of versace chain black/gold leggings and any of my over-sized blazers or trench coats.

Tuxedo: Favorite thing to read?
KC: Definitely Magazines: Purple, Self-Service, Love and i-d

Tuxedo: Favorite Present ever received?
KC: Something my grandmother gave to me for my 7th birthday. It was a tiny silver cast of a dragon hatching out of an egg with diamond eyes. I cherish it to this day.

Tuxedo: Favorite Holiday?
KC: I think that Rome and Paris have had the biggest impact on me in terms of feeling a connection with a city. They are both so enriched in culture, history, style and personality and I think that they are both such inspiring places. I think that my fondest memories lie with both of these cities.

Week ending...um not sure - lost track.

Guess where I am! No, I said guess! No idea!? Okay let me tell you...

I am in a place called Goondiwindi - around fives hours south of Brisbane, Australia. I've travelled here with seven high-school mates to see another, who moved here to be closer to her country roots and cotton farming boyfriend. Perhaps once upon a time I thought she was mad for moving such a distance but now - whilst being here - I can see it's romance and beauty.

This out of the world property is the first Villa to be developed by Cosmopolitan Estate in Son Vida, Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Well, have you heard about Nicole Richie's new child called Winter Kate? Nope, it's not an actual living and breathing buba but a new clothing line named after the middle names of her daughter - Harlow. (Harlow Winter Kate Madden)

Richie, who started her career from being born to much-loved soul singer Lionel Richie, made her own mark alongside socialite - Paris Hilton in The Simple Life. She then wrote a semi-autobiography called The Truth about Diamonds, what an inspiring read that one was. AND now, after launching a jewelry line called The house of Harlow 1960 in 08 (which - if my opinion matters - I like), has honed in on the rag trade producing Winter Kate.

Here are my two cents - I know you didn't ask for it but you're gonna get it. Its just not making me dance on the ceiling if you know what I mean!?

To be brutally honest - Nylon Mag wrote an article on her range this morning and generally they are on the money. But this time, oh god dare I say it, they're wrong - they like it! Question mark! Question mark! The only thing that's making me with flirt with the idea that her designs have some artistic / edgy merit is the photography from Nylon and the jacket on the left below - that one is lovely!

A Divine Launch!

Oh my dear blog, I am sorry that I have neglected you lately. Please don't be angry with me it's just that time has escaped me lately, I have been struggling to put fingers to keyboard - creating a post!

Seeing that I have been distant here are some pictures that I cherish, hopefully you like them too. Fingers-crossed you forgive me. They are from a launch for a cosmetics brand called Bloom that I attended last week. The launch was inlight of the naturally wonderful new range - Bloom Organics.

The launch was at a delightful restaurant called The Commons in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Over an organic brekkie full of homemade delights, Beauty Editors tested the product whilst, at the same time, twitted about their excitement during the launch.

Amongst the wooden crates, Hessian weaves, rattan bike and product displays were amazing flower / plant installations. Word is that Bloom worked with a Sydney Sculptor called Tracey Deep who created gorgeous works like succulents wrapped with a coconut leaf, its edge stitched with delicate string. The look was simple but elegant.

Oh I just re-read that and yes I agree, it sounds completely arrogant. But no, no, I am not in love with myself - I am in love with my new leather platform boots. They're heart breakers!

Today you can call me a liar (a nice one) as I am not delving deep, this post will not be overly personal. Sorry my Up Close & Personal devotees! BUT what I can promise, is that, it will be up close.

Last night I had an up close view at what Yen presented at the L'Oreal Fashion Festival Runway 6 and can I just say; it was a marvelous. The labels turning heads - left, right, left, right - were ALP HA60, Carly Hunter (um question - where on earth did she come from? oh me oh my - amazing), Jack London, Limedrop, Nom*D, Six, TV and Zambesi. With unnecessarily but still fabulous over-sized jackets, cut out leggings, neon lime sheer hooded vests, exposed zips, jumpers tied around heads all designers completely wowed the crowd which was jam-packed with media, the nervo twins with amazing hair, other designers and of course my two friends and I (sitting 3 rows from the back).

Whilst I adored the garments on parade, what was most impressive was how some art-loving designers put on a visual display. This was projected to the wall behind the catwalk acting as an intro to their show. So instead of clicking away at beautiful but semi-too-skeletal models, I chose to point my lens at these. Here is what I snapped....they turned out vintagy (so hot right now) or hazy - i likey!

Most mornings I get into work around 20mins early - you know just to settle in, eat breakfast at my desk (yes I am one of those) have a facebook stalk, add to dashboard various blogs, online magazines and e-boutiques that catch my eye. This morning (like most mornings actually) I was glued to Nylon.com. With friends raving about it and critics salivating over it, I thought its time that I try Izakaya Den and last night I did.

This new hidden Japanese Restaurant is the latest and perhaps greatest culinary delight to hit the polished plates of Melbourne's booming restaurant world. Nestled away under retail stores in the heart of the CBD lies this bustling restaurant offering an effortlessly decedent and mouth watering menu. The menu comes to you rolled up and secured with a rubber band - I nice touch I thought.

What I devoured in a flash:
Miso Soup with Blue Swimmer Crab Leg
(this involved using that awkward cracking tool - sorry beloved Izakaya Den you've lost one brownie point)

Wagyu Bresaola with Daikon Noodles and Seaweed Dressing

Kingfish Sashimi with Sesame Oil and Pickled Ginger

Greens with Fried Bean Curd in Sesame Water

What I slurped in a flash:

So overall I give Izakaya Den 4 and a half Samurai Swords (yes clearly I loved it)

Often I snap things in my travels that I like with the hope of referring back to them for some sort of inspiration. But you see its often that I forget about the pics I take on my phone, rarely do I refer back to them. So here are images that - like I said - make my heart skip a beat. Hopefully I remember these from now on....

Today I met a friend for lunch, he was slightly late - perhaps only by a second but long enough to allow me to fall in love with the earthy and fresh looking display above at Domain Flowers. What seduced me were these rustic silver tins. If they are flirting with you too then you can purchase them online at Tinware.

Whilst we're talking flowers - this multi-teared arrangement at Willow is another thing that caught my wandering eye. You can purchase similar vases at an Antiqued Shed, loco - 65 Tyrrab Road Mornington. If you can't make the journey (which you should do, its amazing), try HoneyBee Homewares.

Fact: whilst writing this post I googled "How many times does the average human heart beat a day". Google replied with 100,000. Looks like I am down to 99,998.

Like my bookmarked blogging friend from Design Files wrote about this morning (she always beats me to the punch - damn her and her fast typing fingers), Sportsgirl has some fashionably awesome things threading together this month.

This month Sportsgirl is channelling those creative types - bloggers, photographers, muso's, illustrators, anyone really with a creative backbone promoting Australia's creative underground.

I find this story most inspiring. Sportsgirl had Hayley Hughes create this Harajuku-inspired window feature at their South Yarra Store. Hayley now has her blogspot URL smeared across the window to further promote her fantastic work. Hayley congrats! I don't know but I am proud.

Oh Mr online diary - tell me - why can't I write today? This week has been full of laughs, tears, crazy busy times and sheer weirdness but for some reason I have nothing in me which would result in a remotely interesting post.

So here is an uninteresting and rather sad post that reflects a couple of things that I have seen or done this week! Apologies in advance....

In light of a few friends and work colleges tying the knot, here is a wedding inspired post all about my week.

Something Old
Spotted - an old shiny Datsun. A car of my dreams. No lie, scouts honour, cross my heart, swear to god - etc etc blah blah. I love this little beauty! However a mate of mine called her a 'glorified bogan mobile' - tell me that's not true!

AND another thing that I saw this week on Mamma Mia that's old - MADONNA posing for LV. Wowee has she aged. Bet she thanks her air brushing assistants everyday. Ouuuucchhhhh but completely true!

Something New
My new DIANA MINI. Haven't test driven her yet but sure she will snap like a dream.

Something Borrowed
I ate (totally borrowed) a friends stash of food from her desk at work whilst she had a day off. Oh my that sounds awful and, yes, I feel guilty. But she keeps these organic chocolate fruit bars in the top draw under her desk that are so beautiful I couldn't resist. Should I tell her it was me!?

Something Blue
Yesterday an awkward looking young man (you know the nerdy looking kind) knocked me over on the street. Being the nice guy that he was, reached out his hand and helped me up. When standing on my two feet I noticed that his Blue T-Shirt said - Rehab is for Quitters. HA! Funny I thought. What do you reckon?

Lipsticks Back, Alright!

Lipstick is back with a vengence! Chanel have introduced a modern take on classic creme lip colour to pay homage to the rich life and legacy of 'Coco' Chanel. The range - R ouge Coco. Like Chanel - Nylon online also reported that lips from the latest runways were smeared not with gloss but with Lipstick. Yep, serious - Lipstick! These matte and high gloss Lipsticks made from vibrant pastel, candied coloured tones were a huge hit and yelled - Lipsticks back loud and proud.

Dear Tuxedo Black Cashmere Pink - week ending March 5 (hello March - how are you?)

This week my anxiety levels have been through the roof, quite possibly I am on the verge of a nervous break down. You see I fear that its this section of my blog - Up Close & Personal - is causing this anxiety as the mounting pressure of coming up with something personal is taking its toll. But for the sake of my three loyal followers (two best mates and mum), I plan to put these slightly exaggerated anxiety levels aside and get on with the show.

This week I thought about previous posts, in particular 'A Man in Need of an Education'. With the concern that this post potentially could provoke a sense of disdain with the opposite of sex here is a post reflecting the fun /quirky first catch ups (or first dates whatever) I have had recently.

1. I loved this one - a man with about seven years on me, asked me out (via text) for a Bubble o Bill. HA! I mean, I didn't think these still existed - I haven't had one since I was four. Anyway back to the story - my ice-cream friend and I walked along street, purchased a Bubble o Bill (for the record I can't stay away from Monaco Bars so I went without his chosen ice-cream) and chatted until our ice-creams were finished. It was completely hilarious and great at the same time. Sadly he choked on Bill's nose so I haven't seen him since....

2. One boy attempted to sweep me off my feet by taking me to Nobu, ordering everything decedent on the menu that came with a hefty price tag. With him trying to educate me on food (oh no you don't - I totally pride myself on my food knowledge) things didn't really turn out so good. What a cheese ball I thought! But this cheese ball did teach me something (warning - completely corny but so cool at the same time) he told me to put a teaspoon of caviar in the webbing of fingers from thumb to index, then lick it and have a sip of my French Champagne. With uncontrollable laughter I did it and to my shock horror the taste was completely and utterly unbelievable. The two seem to get on like a house on fire in my mouth. This date still makes me laugh!!

3. Another guy asked my out for pancakes, yes pancakes. So on a Sunday we met at Richmond Hill Cafe & Larder and had, yep you guessed it, pancakes. I loved this date the most but I think sadly the huge hangover I had from the night before must have killed this romance as I never heard from him again.

Now over to you - if you have had a funny date , spill it!

Kreative Blog Award

I was tagged by my dearest and perhaps only blogging buddy from Handmade Romance for the Kreative Blog Award. To play along I have to share seven things about myself and then pass the award onto seven others. It's like an old fashioned chain letter.

So here you are.....

1. I am quite obsessed with red grapes, not green but red. My obsession with grapes is so bad that I have minor withdrawals during their out-of-season months. 2. When changing the volume on any electronic device I always set the level to an even number or to intervals of five. I can't bear having the volume at 13, 17, 19, 21. It must be at 15, 18, 20 - not quite sure why!? 3. I prefer Winter to Summer or Autumn or Spring for so many reasons. Who can resist woolen scarfs, rugging up in heavy knits, Sunday snuggling, pumpkin soup, the smell or crackling sound of an open fire, even hot chocolates tend to taste better in Winter. 4. I hate getting my haircut. Afterwards I always seem to redo it! 5. I am an only child just like my Dad. 6. My secret talent or skill is that I know the names of most flowers. I told someone that once - they thought I was mad. But you believe me don't you!? 7. My overseas escapades have taken me to Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, France, England, Ireland, Hong Kong and Mexico but my favorite place of all time, of all time (say that like Kanye - way funnier) is New York.

Now I am meant to forward this award to other bloggers but I am new to this little world and are lacking online friends. So if you - whoever you are reading this - have someone in mind for me to nominate, let me know. Perhaps then I can make more friends!

Say hello to my new little friend, her name - Diana Mini. This little baby is bringing back analogue, pay checks to commercial printers and art photography where colour is emphasised and different frames can be used.

Its wide-angle lens means you can get right up close or choose between any of the four focal distances. Diana also allows for multiple-exposures, overlapping frames and intense colours. Most prints give off that sexy retro vibe - perhaps why I like it so much.

Now, question - where the hell do I buy film these days?

Untitled (Big Man) (2000) - a nearly seven-foot sculpture of a naked, completely hairless, belligerent-looking man sitting with his knees drawn up and his elbows resting on his knees, his head in his hand.

Mask Self Portrait (2007) - eight-foot sculptur

Seeking something eerie yet completely fascinating to do? Well pop down to the exhibition at the Ron Mueck NGV. Mueck, an Australian artist, creates sculptures that represent the human form in all of its perfection - right down to the last imperfection. His style is what you call Hyperrealism meaning, he creates unbelievably life-like sculptures. Sculptures that are as detailed as a high res image. His work is that accurate, that you feel as though you're looking at a living and breathing new born child or naked man, even if they are 3 meters long and motionless.

Ron's attention to detail is truly unbelievable - his sculptures have dewy cheeks, wrinkled ankles, cracked lips, rough elbows, real hair and awkward facial expressions that suggest they have feelings and thoughts.

Whilst pretty bizarre I would suggest heading to NGV to see it with your own peepers.

Dear Tuxedo Black Cashmere Pink - week ending Feb 26 (oh my god - feb is nearly finito - yikes)

What a pretty morning I woke up to today. Nothing makes me feel better than the morning sun, that semi cold but bearable air that gives you a minor head chill, and the noise the birds make in the tree outside of my bedroom (their species - sadly I do not know). My week on the other hand, like this pretty morning, has also been wonderful. I say wonderful because wonderful things have happened to me this week, things like - a complete stranger bought me a coffee because when I went to pay my wallet was pennyless, I shocked myself when I accomplished a 40km bike ride (afterward, quads not one bit sore), and remember how I blogged about my all time fav site, The Cool Hunter in 'The Greatest Site of em All'. Well Bill from the actual Cool Hunter itself yes that's right - The Cool Hunter, shocked me by emailing me this....

'I love your profile - well written and don't take comments seriously. Your blog is inspiring so if anyone has written something not so pleasant, its just out of jealousy or anger - water of a ducks back - don't think about - just delete' Bill.

I would love to tell you Bill's position but like the bird's species - it remains unknown. So to you Bill, you lovely man...thanks for taking 2 secs out of your day to write to little old me! You made me smile!

Okay now for the crescendo of this wonderful week; listen to this one or should I say read!?
An old high school crush emailed me saying that - whilst working in Japan he had stumbled across my blog and kinda liked it. This old high school crush liked it so much that he has referred my blog into a new International Fashion Maggie regarding a potential writing opportunity for me. There is one bummer though, the email was sent at the start of this month to my hotmail address which I never check, like never! So I have only just now responded, 3 weeks later. So please say a little prayer for me that it's not too late....please!

Anyway other things on the blogging agenda
For the month coming up I have some pretty exciting things to share with you!

1. Of course you'll be the first to know if this writing opportunity eventuates into something - you better be praying!

2. I have roped creatively inspiring young fashionable types into allowing me to write a little somethang about them. The first on the agenda is a stylist, only 24, accepted to do an internship at Vogue NYC. The second, a well know Makeup Artist and third you'll just have to wait with baited breath!

3. I am going to sign up to Patsyfox Drawing Salon to brush up on any old drawing skills that still remain. If my drawings are any good I will show you.

4. Lastly I have artwork coming for a new title for Tuxedo Black Cashmere Pink from a talented buddy of mine. Get ready for it, I think it's going to be super cute.

Now onto today's picture choice...I chose this picture because after doing the 40 km bike ride, which was amongst 6000 others and included peddling over the Westgate Bridge, I have decided that I love bikes - espesh these bikes from Pashley in the UK. Admittedly this love will only last for a few weeks but for now I want, I want, I WANT!!!

My heart melts over this place not only because I am a flower junkie but because Sarah, the mother nature behind the store, creates these fabulous window displays using recycled materials like old coke cans, smith's chip packets, tomato tins - you name it she has done it. These displays always get you thinking....

I took the pic above for a few reasons. One: I like the hessian wrap around the pot plant. Two: Sarah bought the a-frame for next to nothing and painted it with black board paint (cute right?) and three: I never knew ginger flowered, did you? I thought it was only one of those rooty kinds....see I told you she gets you thinking!

Happy Tuesday everyone - sorry for the lack of post yesterday - hectic day BUT I am back (clearly) feeling uninfected by someones negative comment left on my Up Close & Personal post (which will remain unpublished) from last week....hiss hiss

You see when I am little down I turn to things that take my mind away from the trials and tribs so my existence. On this particular occasion, for an instant pep up, I turned to the exuberant and delightfully artistic site - The Cool Hunter.

The vision of the artwork from Nikki Farquharson and Minjae Lee above, whilst poles apart, suddenly shot a rush of energy back into my veins this morning, influencing this blog post and I guess in a way told me to suck it up and saddle up that horse of mine. Dear Tuxedo Black Cashmere Pink - week ending Feb 19

Another week, another thing or two learned. This week, let me tell you, has been completely disastrous - everything has pushed my tolerance levels and for an intolerant person that's not a good thing.

What's that saying about bad luck? Is it that it generally comes in threes? Well, if that's it then this week for me has lived up to that saying plus some.

A Man in Need of an Education;
Last week a dashingly handsome young man asked me out for a bite. Instead of giving him my general 'sorry I am busy' line, I accepted. I mean, who could resist those rugged good looks he had going on!?

So Tuesday night rolled around, the big date night. At 8pm my phone alerted that I had a message. I thought surely not, that's not him. But to my slight disappointment it was him saying 'out the front'. Lesson one; either call to say you're out front or better yet bring the romance back - just knock on the door.

Anyway I decided not to judge to soon so with my tummy slightly growling with nerves (or was that hunger umm not sure), I gave myself a quick perfume spray and out the door I went only to be greeted by him still sitting in HIS CAR! Lesson two; get out of the car when you see the girl that you're about to head out with. I mean, really!? I contemplated pulling my second favorite 'sorry, I am just not feeling my best' line. But then I got a glimpse of that face and thought - my god you're gorgeous. Call me superficial but his looks seduced me into the car.

After a kiss on the cheek and a quick chat in his stationary car he then asked 'where do you want to go'. Oh my - you're kidding me right!? Lesson three; least have some idea of where you think we should go. I am positive that you would not go into a football match untrained or a meeting unprepared? I am right aren't I!? Then why on earth would go into a date with no idea?? What a nightmare this one was!

With it left up to me to call the shots, I then suggested that instead of dinner we should just have a drink around the corner from my apartment as I suddenly wasn't 'feeling my best' .

Oh Tuxedo Black Cashmere Pink where have all the nice boys gone?

My bad luck plus some moments:

Noticing that the person you share an office with chews really loud (sorry I love you but didn't your mum ever tell you to chew with your mouth shut?)
Being locked out of your apartment for over an hour in your pj's without a mobile phone
Having fire fighters run through your apartment at six in the morning (reason unknown)
And lastly having no choice but to listen to an awful fight and then the makeup sex of your neighbour

Anyway on a brighter note....here are things that haven't annoyed me this week:

The devil wears it, my Aunt wears it, Sienna Miller wears it (sadly I don't) but now it can lie on my coffee table. I am of course referring to Prada, and to be more specific - the book that was unveiled to media yesterday in Soho called (wait for it)....'Prada'. The 5kg, 708 paged book of pure diviness is the latest thing to be sort after. It's a fashionistas, fashion students, art lovers, book collectors dream asset offering a detailed photographic journey of the Prada Empire. Artistically documenting their saffiano texture, advertising campaigns from fall/winter 1987 to 2009 and yesterday's designs, the book can be described as being broken into two parts, Inside and Outside. Besides deathly heels, fearless new fashions, tabloids running wild - NYC Fashion Week has now given birth to something called live streaming. Apparently everyone is doing it, it is the next BIG thing! Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs are the leaders of broadcasting live audio and/or video over the Internet, synonymous with webcasting. Alexander Wang has not only embraced this new trend but has now taken it to another step by slapping his fall collection show across the big screen at Times Square.

Dear Tuxedo Black Cashmere Pink - week ending Feb 12

It’s been some time since I drifted off to sleep prior to the clock striking twelve. My need for little sleep baffles my friends. Perhaps they think I am different, maybe slightly off centre (which I probably am anyway)…but who cares if I only need 6 hours sleep a night – I still function. Anyway all this sleep talk is funnily enough making me sleepy so I am going to cut to the chase. Whilst attempting to shut my eyes prior to some ungodly hour, my mind always seems to race with various thoughts. So here’s a new post idea for Tuxedo Black Cashmere Pink….it’s time you got up close and personal with me.

At the end of every week I am going to summarise my week just been. My likes, pet hates, achievements, mistakes (boy, these seem to be happening so much lately) and anything else I want to get off my chest.

So here goes nothing / everything…..

Hating - Facebook;
If I see one more person post their status as ‘Friday’ when it is in fact Friday I am going to one, write to them saying – Thank you very much for pointing out what day it actually is as I had absolutely no idea. I feel much more intelligent for reading that. Two, delete as friend - immediately, to prevent further day status'.

Mistakes;
Didn’t proof read my message (to a potential new flame) prior to sending. How could I mistake writing ‘Bump’ for ‘Pump’? The message suddenly became offensively sexy and I don’t even like him….oh god why did you make me so silly!?

Achievements; none so far. Wow, inspiring…

What I love this week;
Mum! She wrote me a goodnight message and called me angel. It made me smile.

Thoughts;
This week I thought about a friend that I hadn’t spoken to for a while, a friend that once meant the world to me. I wonder what he is up to these days.

Sayings;
A woman that I work with said to me - 'The more you know. The more you know'. Isn't that saying just awesome!?

Lastly the pic above is from Tallow and Graham, a store filled with marvelous things. The snap was taken on my way to work. I took it because, well, I just luuurrrvvvve that store. Thank-you Tallow and Graham for making my walk to work so pretty!

Yesterday The Design Files had yet another giveaway, it was for the hand-made ebony knitting needles above from Nikki Gabriel....yes, that's right - Nikki Gabriel! I wanted them, I wanted them so bad - I really did. You see , I thought that if I won these hand-made ebony knitting needles they would magically kick start my desire to learn how to knit, spin yarn into superbulous creations just like Gabriel's. Sooooo, to the person cradling these in their hot little hands, (I am sure you're a deserving winner) you have riddled me with envy...happy?

Last year I gleefully tagged along to a shoot for new head shots for my boss. The studio was a hollow shell in Richmond. All that lived in this studio was a red fire extinguisher and a fire place (guess the two go hand in hand really), I am a sucker for simplicity. Whilst the photographer and stylist did what they do best, I was distracted by the most the amazing book I have ever laid eyes upon - Pictures by Tim Walker. There it was lying peacefully on a stool, next to the red fire extinguisher and the fire place. It pulled me towards it somehow. I could have even sworn the cover opened slightly forming the shape of a mouth murmuring – read me, read me, love me, love me.

They are these worldly postcards, a new age envokes a new country. I look forward to these cards the most. An inspiring woman gave me this inspiring book, Etcetera etc. by Sibella Court. It lives on my bedside table, most nights I read this in awe of Court's decadent interiors. Her words are teaching me to look at things in a new light and collect everything and anything - perhaps I will transform into the Bower Bird that she labels herself.

Something I Miss Most Days

The thing I miss most days is Nan's cooking. She was the master of culinary creations. I could never nor will I ever cook the way she did eventhough she left me with her own handwritten recipe book. I swear, there was some sercret ingredient that she never told me about or wrote in her oil stained and exhausted book. Perhaps this missing ingredient was just love. She did leave me with one savory tip however - the more Lemon Juice the better. It kinda works with most things, try it!

New York When it's Cold...

So I have done a little bit of traveling but nowhere near enough. However, I have done enough to recognise that there's nothing quite like New York in the winter time. It's so romantic, shit yeah it's cold but still so romantic and effortlessly seducing. The Guggenheim was one of the highlights of my trip alongside the time when I sat alone on the fire escape stairs of my rented apartment late at night. With a vodka in one hand, extremely cold bare feet, wearing a new scarf wrapped tightly around my neck and a Marc Jacobs trench coat kindly bought for me by an old friend - I watched people frantically dodge in and out of West Village. Someone take me back to Perry Street, NYC - I beg you!
